Extra Preliminary Round of the F.A.Cup this weekend. Retford United stormed to a 6-0 demolition of Tadcaster, whilst Arnold Town were trounced by the same scoreline at Quorn, in what has been described as their worst performance in living memory (Ivan would not be best pleased). Carlton Town & Teversal also crashed out at the first hurdle to Loughborough Dynamo & Atherstone Town respectively.

This is the first of a number of development plans that the Tigers have in mind. GROUND SHARE BACK ON? A full report of this story is available in tonight's final edition of the Nottingham Evening Post. A statement is also available from the Nottingham RFC website.
It appears that the proposed groundshare arrangement between Notts County & Nottingham RFC may not be as dead in the water as previously thought. Nottm RFC chairman Ken Grundy believes that whilst negotiations are at somewhat of an impasse due to 'strong personalities on both sides', a deal is still reachable. Financial arrangements for the rugby clubs 16 proposed Sunday home games have been agreed in principle. However, it appears that the main sticking point is Nottm RFC's desire to be part of Meadow Lane, not just as a tenant. Mr Grundy commented "In my view, a joint operation at Meadow Lane can only be beneficial to the long term aspirations of both clubs. We want sport, all sport, accessible to the city and want Nottm RFC to be a 'City Club'. Notts County will get an extra 16 games with all the benefits that brings to food and beverage sales in the ground, etcetera'

STAGS STORM

This story is featured on many of  Forest & Mansfield websites linked from this site

The weather played havoc with fixtures across the county yesterday afternoon. The dark clouds rolled in from the east coast at around 4pm, bringing torrential rain and violent thunderstorms. One of those hit was the Mansfield v Forest friendly at Field Mill, which had to be abandoned after 71 minutes, much to the dismay of the 5329 drenched attendees. Stags fans would have been particularly disgruntled, given that they were leading 1-0 when the appalling weather took hold.

GROUND TO A HALT

It seems that the recent trend of rugby & football clubs sharing their home will not be spreading to the county - not on a permanent basis anyway. Notts County have ended talks with Nottingham Rugby club over a permanent groundshare arrangement, following months of negotiations. Such a scheme has proved an overwhelming financial success at places such as Edgeley Park, where Stockport County share their home with the Sale Sharks. Yet, an agreement could not be made on a similar arrangement at Meadow Lane.

In a meeting last night, Arnold Town announced that it will remain at Gedling Road for the 2006/07 season, their home for the last 52 years.  In a saga that makes the building of Wembley appear straightforward, Gedling Borough Council have granted the Club an extension to their tenancy, whilst work commences on their new Eagle Valley home, on the outskirts of the town. ADIOS SANTOS

Bilsthorpe outfit Santos have folded following their decision to leave the Central Midlands League. Landlords Bilsthorpe Colliery refused to allow floodlights to be installed at the Club's Dragon's Lair home on Eakring Road. As a result, the ground failed to meet Step 7 standards (see 'Grading' section for further information), which would have prevented Santos from being promoted to the Supreme Division. The Club looked at several other locations to no avail, and also the possibility of ground sharing, but this is not permitted under CML rules. The decision to leave the CML has left the Club without a league to play in, putting 41 years of turbulent history in serious jeopardy. Have the Dragon's ran out of puff? Watch this space.

ARNOLD WHO?

Visit The All New Arnold Who website

An unofficial website entitled 'The All New Arnold Who' has been launched by the Arnold Town Supporters Club. The title of the website was inspired by a newspaper cartoon which questioned who exactly had been drawn to face Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup 1st Rd in Dec 1967. The A.T.F.C.S.C. are conscious that the owners of the Club have other things on their mind than updating a website, as work is set to begin at their new Eagle Valley home.
