The Quarter Finals of the Notts F.A. Senior Cup will see the remaining two highest ranked sides do battle. Hucknall Town will host Eastwood Town in what has to be the tie of the round, given the two club's status as the counties highest ranking non-league sides. A local derby will see the yellow and blues of Arnold Town and Gedling Miners Welfare square up at Gedling Road. Elsewhere, Carlton Town will make the short trip up the A612 to meet Southwell City and CML Premier leaders Ollerton Town will travel to Gedling Town. Ties are due to take place on Tuesday 4 March.

BEES BUZZ OFF TO BILSTHORPE

On the move: Matrixgrade

To read all about their new home, visit my Matrixgrade page and the Matrixgrade website.

NSL Division One Matrixgrade Football Club have relocated. Despite intensive efforts to upgrade their previous home in Annesley  Woodhouse at the start of the season, the opportunity to relocate ten miles east at the Bilsthorpe Miners Welfare Sports Ground proved to great a temptation. The facilities were previously used by NAA side, Santos, and whilst not deemed of a high enough standard for Step 7 football, they would be acceptable for CML Premier football.

The draw for semi-finals of this seasons Notts F.A. Intermediate Cup has kept favourites Notts Police and Hucknall Rolls Royce apart. Unbeaten in NSL Division One, Rolls will travel to NAA side Ashland Rovers with some trepidation, with Rovers having knocked out previous tournament favourites, Carlton Town Reserves, in the previous round. Highest-ranked side, Notts Police, will also face a tough test when they entertain Underwood Villa at Bestwood Workshops. Ties are bdue to be played on Saturday 1 March.

It has been a week for Yellows shirts in the Notts Senior Cup, with the Towns of Arnold, Gedling, Carlton & Hucknall and Gedling Miners Welfare, all seeing off lesser opposition. NSL side Wollaton succumbed 8-1 to Hucknall Town. Not surprising given the seven-division gap between the two, though they did manage to hold the Yellows to 2-1 at half time. Carlton Town hammered Sutton Town 8-0, Gedling Town saw off fellow NCEL side, Teversal, 2-0 and Arnold Town registered a rather flattering 5-1 derby victory against Calverton Miners Welfare. Gedling MW recorded an emphatic 5-0 win at Newark Flowserve. Also into the Quarter Final draw go Ollerton Town, who recorded a 3-2 over Radford at Selhurst Street and Southwell City, who recorded a thrilling 5-4 victory on penalties at Forest Town, after the two sides had fought out a 4-4 draw.

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER

NSL: Expanding

Read more about this story on the Notts F.A. website

The Nottinghamshire Senior League has been permission by the Notts F.A. to run a third division. THe NSL are keen to become a pyramid league for Notts football, and the expansion is seen as part of the grand plan. Welcoming the move, Dick Durrant, the NSLs Vice Chairman, stated There are a lot of changes afoot above us on the pyramid, however, when we started the NSL it was one of our stated goals to provide a good standard of football within the county with good facilities so that the better local players would not have to play in leagues outside of Nottinghamshire if they didnt want to". Concerns had been raised by the historic NAA & MAA that the move could damage their own leagues. However, NSL Secretary, Darrell Parkes, stated "We are very grateful to the NAA and MAA for putting the interests of Notts non-league football ahead of their own. We will only allow a maximum of two teams per season to join the NSL from each league. An agreement has also been reached that the NSL will not include third teams. The NAA and MAA see such sides as their lifeblood and we have no desire to see this threatened".

Brace: Neil Harvey

Retford United bowed out of the F.A.Trophy yesterday, following a 5-2 defeat at Conference side, Histon. The Badgers made a real fight of it though, leading 2-1 at the break thanks to a brace from Neil Harvey. Histon were just too strong in the second half, leaving the Badger's to concentrate their efforts on gaining promotion to the Unibond Premier. In the F.A.Vase, Gedling Town's interest came to an end, with a narrow 4-3 defeat at Studley.

HAVANT A CLUE

Notts County have crashed out of this seasons F.A. Cup to Conference South side Havant & Waterlooville. A shock 87th minute strike from Tony Taggatt leaves Forest & Mansfield as the counties two remaining representatives in the competition. Mansfield will travel to Brighton & Hove Albion, having squeezed by Harrogate Railway Athletic 3-2 in front of the BBC's cameras, whilst Forest can look forward to glamour tie at home to Liverpool, if they can see off at Luton a week on Tuesday.

Dunkirk went down 2-1 to Oldbury United in their Third Round  F.A.Trophy replay at  the Ron Steel Sports Ground last night. Gedling Town are the counties only guaranteed remaining entrant in the competition. Town overcame Cradley Town 2-1 in the last minute of extra time to book their place on Saturday, whilst Rainworth Miners Welfare challenge came to an end when they lost by a solitary goal at Lancashire outfit, Flixton. Gedling will now travel to Step 5 Warwickshire side, Studley.

ALMOST PERFECT

For the local results & fixture details click here.

All three of our professional football sides entered the draw for the F.A.Cup Second Round, though Nottingham Forest still have some work to do. Mansfield and Notts County made light work of disposing of non-league sides Lewes and Histon respectively, whilst Forest struggled to an unconvincing 1-1 draw at Lincoln City. Mansfield and Notts will once again face non-league opposition, though Notts will be the most comforted with a home tie against Step 2 Havant & Waterlooville, who are in the second round for the first time in their short nine-year history. Meanwhile, the Stags face an awkward trip to the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, Step 4 Harrogate Railway Athletic. Forest will travel to Brentford or Luton Town, if they can overcome The Imps on 27 November.

Retford United have stormed their way to the 3rd Qualifying Road of the F.A.Trophy with a 5-1 victory over Fleetwood Town. Goals from Neil Harvey, Mick Goddard, Ryan Hindley, Phillip Haddow and a brace from Mick Godber left their opponents stunned. Retford Matchday Secretary John Hodgkinson commented "We're absolutely delighted, we played them off the park. It was a fantastic night for the club". The Badgers will now fancy their chances in a home tie against Unibond North strugglers, Radcliffe Borough, on 24 November.

SECOND BITE FOR BADGERS

Scorer: Ryan Hindlay

For a full match report visit the Retford United website

Unibond Division One highfliers Retford United live to fight another day in this season's F.A.Trophy, following an impressive draw at Unibond Premier side, Fleetwood Town. By half time, a Steve Foster goal seemed to have Fleetwood cruising their way into the next round, as they had done in the previous round against North Notts outfit Worksop Town. However, the in-form Badgers fought back impressively in the second half, and got their reward through a Ryan Hindley equaliser in the 53th minute, thus condemning that 'The Cod Army' to a tricky Tuesday night trip to Cannon Park.
